There are some 14th century BC documents called the Amarna Letters that refer to a region known as Canaan, along the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Among the many groups of people who lived there were the Philistines, in a city-state called Philistia, from which we get the name Palestine.

The Letters reference a group of people called Habiru, which some claim is a variation of “Hebrew”. These folks were always creating a ruckus in the southern Canaan area, conquering a number of city-states and generally causing havoc.

An inscribed stone called the Merneptah Stele, which dates to around the 13th century BC, refers to a people called “Isrir” within the Canaan region. The stele says that the “Isrir” people were vanquished and wiped out by Pharaoh Merneptah, presumably because those annoying folks wanted more living space and less Egyptian meddling in their affairs.

Note well that “Habiru” and “Isrir” are generally regarded today to refer to Hebrews and Israel, but other than some phonetic similarities, there is no extant connection between the inscribed words and the modern ones. It is akin to claiming that Philistia and Phoenecia, or the Han and the Hun are the same people. There is also no way to connect those ancient people to anyone living today. Any claim to having a genetic connection is spurious at best, and baseless at the least.

From the years 586 BC to 538 BC, the Judeans were enslaved by Babylon, so we are told. The only reliable non-biblical texts referencing the Babylonian Exile include the Babylonian Chronicles and the Cyrus Cylinder. The Chronicles mention some folks called Judah, but the Cylinder makes no specific references. In both cases, the Judeans were just one of many peoples in captivity.

What we do know is that the Torah/Old Testament/Tawrit was a reworking of the Babylonian belief system to support a monotheistic faith. This seems to have been done by the character we know as David, in order to consolidate power by giving himself Divine Right, and especially centralizing tithes to the many temples in the region, with a single temple across from his palace (of course).

David’s palace, by the way, is what we generally call Temple Mount, and the Wailing Wall was part of his stables.

In any case, by this time in history, the Habiru, or Hebrews if you prefer, were long gone, wiped out by the Egyptians centuries before. Their replacements in the region were the Judeans, who may or may not have kept any of the preceding culture, other than some verbal traditions and Babylonian texts. They were thoroughly mixed with other peoples by the end of the Exile, though, and thus unrelated in any provable way to the Habiru.

The Romans began conquering what was by then known as Palestine (Filistia in Arabic) in 63 BC, when Pompey the Great captured Jerusalem. The city of Jerusalem and the area around it was known then as Judea, which is the origin of the name “Jew”. By 6 BC, Judea was firmly established as a Roman province under the rule of Herod Agrippa, who was the last Jewish king of Judea.

The kings of Judea were subordinate to the Roman governor, one of whom you may have heard of, despite being otherwise an unremarkable placeholder - Pontius Pilate.

We zoom through a couple of thousand years of Crusades, Byzantium, and Islamic conquests to arrive at the fall of the Ottoman Empire at the turn of the 20th century. We should note that ancient references to the region mention its volatility, constant wars and uprisings. We should also note that the reason everyone wanted this land was not for religious reasons - that was the distraction - nor for ancestral claims, but because it was the literal cross-roads of all land-based trade routes east to west, and north to south. Lots of goods and money flowed through there for thousands of years. It was a cultural melting pot made wealthy by a bunch of middle-men traders.

It wasn’t until the famous T. E. Lawrence (a.k.a. Lawrence of Arabia) in World War One that any of the warring tribes in the Levant and Arabian peninsula had any form of unity, much less national identity.

Judea did not include all of Palestine, and there were a number of different peoples claiming various parts of the region. It wasn’t until the Sykes-Picot Agreement in 1916 (Britain and France), that the region had any national boundaries of any kind.

The ruins of the Ottoman Empire we know today as the Middle East were colonized by European and Russian powers, creating “nations” out of whole cloth. The only consistently settled and culturally unified region anywhere in that part of the world is Persia, now called Iran (from Aryan), which is currently berated as a “rogue” nation because they pursue their own course and interests.

The British, who claimed Palestine, subsequently issued the Balfour Declaration in 1917, supporting a “Jewish homeland” in the area - mostly as a means to shuttle Jews out of England, and Europe in general, much like the United States did with former slaves and Liberia a century before. The Nazis also provided financial incentives for European Jews willing to resettle in Palestine.

Cut to a parallel story…

In the 6th century AD, Someone Whose Name We Cannot Mention (SWNWCM) formed a socio-political movement that was essentially a mish-mash of different cultures and religions found along the primary East-West trade route, known as the Silk Road. This included the Judean people and religion, and absorbed many Judeans after the Romans levelled Jerusalem it in AD 70, leaving a great many refugees looking for a place to settle down.

SWNWCM decided his people were of the direct lineage of Ibrahim, just like the Judeans. The Judeans, he said, were descended from Isaac, and his people were descended from Ismael, Ibrahim’s son by the maid. Since the Judeans had a copyright on the name YHWH, SWNWCM declared the name of his god would be Allah. The difference between YHWH and Allah is essentially the same as between the Greek Zeus and Roman Iupiter.

When SWNWCM died in the 7th century AD, his followers split over whether the disciples should lead the new religion (Sunni), or whether the blood line of SWNWCM would be the rightful leaders (Shi’a).
About the same time, Rome was being resurrected as a theocracy ostensibly based on another offshoot of the Judean religion called Christianity. All three religions claimed Jerusalem as their holiest monument, and naturally this led to centuries of war and atrocities that have yet to be resolved after 1,500 years.

All three religions claim to be the spiritual inheritors of the character YHWH, and anyone who has objectively read the Torah (a.k.a Old Testament or Tawrat) knows the horrific blood-lust, genocide and moral turpitude that the character YHWH embraced. It is therefore no surprise that religions and cultures based on YHWH’s example have also embraced such behavior - eye for an eye, that sort of thing.

We should note at this point that Iran and Hezbollah are primarily Shi’a, while Hamas, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia are predominantly Sunni. Clearly the Muslims in the region disagree with each other, as much as with any other religions.

The Palestinians control/administer the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa mosque, built in the 7th century AD. It is claimed to sit atop the ruins of Solomon’s Temple (which is actually on Mount Sion across the way) and the point where SWNWCM ascended into the heavens. This makes it clear that Jews (Judeans don’t exist as a distinct genetic or cultural group now) have had little or no control over Jerusalem for at least 1,300 years, until after AD 1948.

The “Jews” as we know them today are dominated by the Ashkenazi, an Eastern European people from the region of Galicia in western Ukraine (yup), and eastern Germany and Poland. “Ashkenaz” is the name for Germany in Medieval Hebrew. The other major group is called Sephardi, which denotes Jews from Spain who are mixed with Moorish blood. Somewhere around 90% of all Jews in the world are Ashkenazi and have no Semitic bloodlines at all. The Sephardic Jews make up about 9%, while small culturally distinct Italian and Ethiopian Jews round out the numbers.

The Semitic peoples are in fact the Palestinians and Arab populations in the region. The term “anti-semitism,” as it is commonly used today, is a ruse to squelch criticism and deceive the masses concerning the origins and behavior of the Ashkenazim. It has also become a powerful fund-raising tool via dispensationalist efforts and corporate extortion. We also note with interest the last four letters of the word “Ashkenazi”. Given that Ashkenaz means Germany, it is a curious irony that the Nazis are remembered primarily for their treatment of the Ashkenazim.

As we can appreciate, the Levant is a seething cesspool of conflicting interests, all claiming ancestral rights to various lands and landmarks, and all based on ambiguous claims in ancient texts, whose provenance is questionable at best, and a matter of faith in any case. The ancient rivalries are further exacerbated by European meddling with arbitrary boundaries based on colonial claims and interests. And all of it is based on the wealth generated by the Cross-Roads of Continents, in spite of any other claims to religion and culture.

What is clear is that there was never in all of history, up to AD 1948, a nation called Israel that encompassed the region of Canaan/Philistia, much less including Judea. At best, the Judeans, if any still exist as a unique people, have an ancestral claim to Jerusalem and a few surrounding hectare. Even that, as we know from the Torah and assumed meaning of Merneptah’s stele, was taken by a group of nomads called Habiru, under the command of some character called YHWH, who ordered the extermination of the existing populations to claim the land for himself and his followers.

All of the foregoing is the long way around to saying I am not the least bit lathered up over current events in the modern political state of Israel. Since the dawn of written history, that region has been bathed in blood and marred by atrocities that even a cursory reading of the histories leave one nauseous.

It is all the more exacerbated by a group of nominal Christian dispensationalists, who think their interpretation of a text titled “Revelation” (a.k.a. Apokalypsis) means they are divinely ordained to manipulate human events and force the Second Coming of Christ, not to mention attaining wealth and power in the process.

For this reason, they have furiously and blindly defended the creation of a political state called “Israel” (which never existed before AD 1948), fostered strife and conflict to launch Armageddon, and done everything they can to destroy the Dome of the Rock, with plausible deniability, in order to “rebuild” Solomon’s Temple (in the wrong place). They purpetuate the Habiru/Isrir/Judah myth because it suits their narradigm of Ultimate Justice.

It is interesting to note in this timeline that Vatican City was created in AD 1929, nine years after the Balfour Declaration, after the old Papal States of Italy gave way to a unified secular government we know today as Italia.

There is no solution to the situation in “Israel”. All the competing interests are entrenched and unyielding. Their religious ideologies are founded on slaughter and ethnic cleansing, and they are hide-bound to continue that tradition.

It is also clear that the current situation is a direct result of meddling by Britain, France, Italy, and Russia. Israel was created by the Balfour Declaration, mass expulsion of Ashkenazim from Europe, and a war initiated by European “Jews” to forcefully take Palestine from the indigenous population.

Every man’s death diminishes me, but that in no way implies that I agree with or even care why he died. It is a tragedy that so many must be slaughtered over interpretations of some old texts. I have no sympathy for the why, but I am profoundly saddened that the poor souls were aggrieved over something as pitiful and inconsequential as a book - especially in the era of mass printing and distribution of bespoke books.

In any case, we can safely say that events in the Mideast are part of a long-running fraud, using narradigms and actors designed and deployed to create fear and anxiety among the uninformed and credulous. Everything about the current “crisis” reeks of false provocation. It is part of an escalating series of events, beginning in the homeland of the Ashkenazi, that are supposed to lead to global war, so that our civilization can be torn down and rebuilt in “their” image.

It will likely get worse, and if no one buys it, Taiwan is next. Each iteration will be more horrifying than the last, and yet we see the same tired propaganda about babies that we have heard over and over, from the reign of the Kaiser to yesterday’s headlines. There is real death and destruction, but it is all part of a staged production to destroy rationality and fuel emotionalism.

I don’t buy it, but it does have one advantage for rational people. We know that anyone reflexively waving flags is a Non-Player Character that we can safely ignore.

One final note - I have yet to find any non-biblical source that witnessed a nomadic people being led by a pillar of fire and carrying a gold box shooting lightning bolts. It seems to me that such events would be notable enough to mention somewhere in the contemporaneous histories.

I decided to do this post for a couple of reasons. One is the fact that I came here for conspiracy theories first and foremost. Another is the fact that the flow of information has been very strange as of late, and what's being shown through the media looks more and more like a script being written  out for us.

So, I'd like ro pose a question.

What is your favorite conspiracy theory?

I'm looking to do a little casual investigating, but I'd like some new ideas of places to look. You can post me a link to a thread if you'd like. I'd also like to go back and look at some of our old conspiracies and see what has changed. There are so many I would love the favorites of this crowd.

My favorite conspiracy, and the one I got hung up on for so long is the MK-ultra experiments. The areas i looked into were whether or not they were continued experiments, as well as, are the tactics learned from it all used today; and ro what capacity. I had wondered how far back the experiments actually went. I wondered if a lot of that was in deed something that was shared with, and or learned from the nazis back in ww2. I actually had quite a list going on for a good while on the topic.

I found the mind control aspect of it all to be what intrigued me. The kore i learned a long the way the more i wished i had remianed ignorant of it all. Let's just say it lead me down some deep dark rabbit holes that I am glad to be out of.

This is another installment in my loosely arranged series on the relationships between RF systems and anomalous aerospace objects and related phenomena. So far, we've had some great discussions about UFO burns, Microwave Auditory Effect (MAE), and psychological/physiological side-effects of high powered RF systems and signals including the Woodpecker signal.

Today, we're going to briefly review and expand on some of these concepts with real-world examples and (hopefully) easy-to-digest information. Let's start with a brief introduction to RF and the human brain (relax, I won't get too technical). Meet LIDA.

The machine, known as the LIDA, is on loan to the Jerry L.
Pettis Memorial Veterans Hospital through a medical exchange
program between the Soviet Union and the United States.

Hospital researchers have found in changes behaviour in
animals.

"It looks as though instead of taking a valium when you want
to relax yourself it would be possible to achieve a similar
result, probably in a safer way, by the use of a radio field
that will relax you" said Dr. Ross Adey, chief of research
at the hospital.

The LIDA machine, a small rectangular box with two luminous round “eyes” which appear to "stare" right through its subject, was developed as a therapeutic device utilizing low frequency radio waves to tranquilize a patient. Tests of this device took place in 1982-1983. Those who worked with LIDA emphasized the implications of the success of the technology--that anything that could be done using a drug, can be done using the right electromagnetic signals. In essence, one can establish a "cause and effect" relationship between a magnetic field and a biological function. 

The machine posed ethical questions; the idea of remote mind-altering technology didn't sit well for some people, despite the machine's success in therapy. LIDA was not the only electronic "mind control" device undergoing research from the 1960s through the 1980s. A different machine, categorized as an RF mind interference machine, emitted a weak magnetic field pulsed at extremely low frequencies and was able to implant basic images (parabolas, spikes, etc) into the minds of the subjects (although they needed to be connected to electrodes). This technology, when refined, could induce hallucinations and even alter behavior and decision making. Before we don our tinfoil hats, remember that most ordinary citizens will not be subjected to or harassed by "mind-altering" technology like this in their lifetimes. Paranoia does one no good, but healthy awareness is never a bad thing.   

Back in 1961, Allan H. Frey conducted studies on a phenomenon known as Microwave Auditory Effect (MAE), alternatively known as The Frey Effect. In World War II, personnel who worked in close proximity to early radar systems reported hearing abnormal audio effects which seemed to originate from within their heads. These “noises” came in the forms of clicks, buzzes, and hums. Frey conducted a series of experiments in an effort to reproduce these internally-generated sounds using pulsed modulated RF signals. He was successful. While knowledge and technology was limited at the time, some argued that the amount of raw power required to produce the audio effects using the technology available then would produce too much tissue heating and damage for the effect to have any practical uses. However, as technology and scientific understanding evolved, so did the efficiency of MAE and other microwave-based systems intended for use on humans. Clicks and hums evolved into linguistic noise and eventually recognizable speech, with little to no adverse thermal effects, leading to MAE's nickname--Synthetic Telepathy. (If you're interested in technical details, James C. Lin, Ph.D wrote a book in 1978 called Microwave Auditory Effect and Applications. Some crafty internet searching will lead you to a copy.)

At some point, they went the other way and specifically engineered a device designed to take advantage of the aforementioned RF thermal effects. Meet the [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzG4oEutPbA]Active Denial System (ADS), a less-than-lethal Phase IV combat weapon designed for crowd pacification, alternatively known as the "heat ray". The ADS would "lightly cook" the subjects using a focused beam of 95 GHz waves, causing serious discomfort in the form of heat. This device, although useful, wasn't as big of a hit as anticipated, as most mobs could be similarly pacified by simply spraying them with a fire hose.



The ADS system was put to use in 2002. Meanwhile, in 2003, other things were heating up. In Canneto di Caronia, there were 300 'spontaneous combustion' fires (electronics, furniture, etc) along with a host of electronics malfunctions (computers, flash drives, etc) associated with pulses of electromagnetic energy. Natural causes were ruled out. These repeated EM bursts (some estimated to have been in the neighborhood of an incredible 12 to 15 gigawatts of power) were speculated to have been the cause of the spontaneous fires. The investigating task force suggested the bursts originated from off the coast shortly before their investigation was shut down by the Italian Government. The EM bursts and associated fires returned in 2014, and a few people in the area were quick to blame these incidents on otherworldly technology due to the "unfathomable" amount of power associated, as well as the UAP sightings which accompanied these events.

This wasn't the first cluster of directed energy incidents focused on a single area. In the 1970s, Colares, Brazil experienced a wave of sightings and burn-type injuries typically associated with exposure to powerful bursts of NIEMR (Non-Ionizing Electromagnetic Radiation). Witnesses also reported cylindrical UAP sightings along with luminous beams associated with the injuries. A few witnesses even reported humanoid sightings, including one who saw the figure of a man holding what looked like a pistol pointed at her while a luminous beam from a UAP proceeded to burn her on the chest. However, the burns and injuries experienced by the people of Colares did not appear to be caused by anything nearly as powerful as the EM bursts in Canneto di Caronia. UFO Danger Zone by Bob Pratt describes the Brazil events in detail.

Similar incidents popped up around the world. In Uleaborg, Sweden in November of 1976, witness Erno Lammi watched a light cross the border and land in a nearby field. He went out to investigate, but when he approached the object, a ray of light shot out from it, striking him in the chest. He felt a burning sensation before blacking out. Some of his friends were present and witnessed this incident from a safe distance. Lammi went to the hospital following the event, and doctors found burn marks on his chest and back. According to a report from Rudnyi, Kustanay region Kazakhstan (USSR) in 1990, a witness woke up to tuck her young daughter under the blanket when she saw a luminous sphere on the upper level of the balcony door. The witness covered the young girl with the blanket and heard a loud ringing sound in her ears. She felt a bad headache and soon lost consciousness. She woke up about an hour later feeling a strong burning on her stomach. She found a burn scar about 2cm wide and 10cm long on her stomach. (From UFOZONE Russia, also published in Albert Rosales Humanoid Compilation 1990)

Incidents of this nature have been reported as far back as the 1950s and 1960s. In Felixstowe, Suffolk, England on September 20, 1965, three young witnesses, Geoffrey Maskey, Michael Johnson, and Mavis Forsyth, were parked in Maskey’s car when Michael Johnson hastily left the car. They all heard a high pitched hum and saw an orange, glowing object about 6 feet long flying over the car. Shortly after, Johnson staggered out from a hedge and fell unconscious. He woke up in the hospital and said he had been drawn from the car by an involuntary compulsion, and later spoke of “a man in the flames pointing at him.” He suffered severe shock, and there were burn marks on the back of his neck. Those are just a few examples--there are many more just like them. Some have more fantastical details (deep in the realm of high-strangeness), but due to the finicky nature of human memory along with personal bias and beliefs, it can be reasoned that some of these witnesses manufactured 'alien' or even 'religious' details that were not observed in order to aid themselves in processing (or coping with) their experiences (i.e. a description of alien figures seen in front of a luminous sphere, when in reality, the sphere was there but the figures were not, or, alternatively, note the description of a "man in flames" pointing at witness Michael Johnson). Either way, in many of these cases, "something" is causing these injuries, visions, and other special effects which were powerful enough to seriously affect the witnesses both physically and psychologically.

From the document Anomalous and Subacute Field Effects on Human Biological Tissues, Chapter 3, pg. 12:

 This pathophysiological observation is a convincing one: "Something" is causing these near field)" injuries, the energy deposition and conditions follow our "real-world" neurological experience.

EM bursts, powerful signals, and gentler but precision-engineered "therapeutic" transmissions (such as those from the LIDA machine) all have one thing in common--they can cause physiological (and psychological) effects ranging from fairly innocuous audio and general discomfort to fabulously nasty burns. In the 1970s, a powerful radio signal was detected worldwide, a ~10hz tapping picked up by radio operators from Eastern Europe to the US and Canada and everywhere in between. This signal was dubbed 'The Woodpecker'. It got into just about everything, even household electronic devices, CB radio, and commercial industries, rendering communications impossible for about 7 minutes at a time. Dr. Robert Becker, author of The Body Electric, described the psychological and physiological symptoms many people (especially in Eugene, Oregon) complained about during these broadcasts, symptoms typically characteristic of strong radio-frequency or microwave irradiation--anxiety, sudden onset tinnitus, severe headaches, coordination issues, fatigue, and insomnia. This signal was traced back to Duga, the Soviet OTH (Over-The-Horizon) Radar system, which broadcasted an enormously powerful 10 megawatt signal during its operational years between 1976 and 1989.

Although some researchers theorized that the side-effects from Duga's Woodpecker Signal may have been deliberate, I'm not convinced Duga was designed for this type of harassment. Its "side-effects" may have been investigated and later taken advantage of, but this massive radar installation was just that: a massive OTH radar installation. Regardless, the signal demonstrated the potential potency of powerful radio signals, even those which were not originally intended to affect living beings. How does all of this tie into UAP/high-strangeness, aside from the pile of "encounters" which have elements traditionally characteristic of exposure to these types of systems? For all of you big-time UFO buffs, here's a hot take.

Humans, with this relatively "primitive" technology, have demonstrated the capabilities of remotely inducing 'altered states'. Roughly anything that can be done with a drug, can be done remotely. It's interesting to imagine the reality-altering capabilities of technology developed over time by intelligences far greater than that of humans. The technology discussed here would be but a club and torch to an advanced civilization--the possibilities are virtually endless. Although the idea of mind-control devices may sound frightening (and the idea of abuse of these systems is, in fact, unsettling), the very existence of these seemingly impossible devices inspires an imagination of a future, good or bad, that humanity may or may never achieve. Historian Christian Lous Lange famously said, “Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master.”

Meanwhile, keep your tinfoil hat on the table--most average citizens will never have to meet any of these "rogue waves" in person. It does no good to live life under the shadow of paranoia, but a healthy awareness opens windows and lets in a little light. Thanks for reading.

A "flesh-eating bacteria" called Vibrio vulnificus has been making headlines, with news of deaths and patients having to amputate limbs to control the infection.
While the bacteria tended to be more prominent in the Gulf Coast states, in recent months, cases have also spread northward, with cases in New York, North Carolina, and Connecticut.
So what is Vibrio vulnificus, and will they really eat flesh like in horror movies?

Vibrio vulnificus is a type of so-called flesh-eating bacteria that can cause life-threatening infections. Infections with this bacteria are rare but are on the rise.

Microbiologist and distinguished professor Rita Colwell from the University of Maryland, who has been studying Vibrio bacteria for 50 years, said that cases of infections have increased by many fold in recent decades.
Around 150 to 200 cases of V. vulnificus infections are reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) every year. About 20 percent of those infected die within a day or two of being infected.
Vibrio vulnificus thrive in warm, salty, and brackish waters. Hence, V. vulnificus infections are the most commonly reported in Gulf Coast states like Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and particularly Florida, which has one of the longest coastlines in the United States.

However, there has also been an increase in V. vulnificus reports along the East Coast.
"Physicians along the Gulf Coast were familiar with this infection. But now that the Vibrio is moving up the Eastern Seaboard, I think physicians there—particularly those who work in the emergency room—are having to learn more about this infection," Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of preventive medicine and health policy at the infectious disease division in Vanderbilt University Medical Center, told The Epoch Times.

Between 1992 and 2022, infection cases of V. vulnificus increased fivefold in Florida, and eightfold in eastern states between 1988 and 2018, according to a recent paper led by Ms. Colwell.
The paper investigated the coastal waters for V. vulnificus and V. parahaemolyticus, a related bacteria in the same genus, after Hurricane Ian. Researchers found that hurricanes and floods may increase the prevalence of V. vulnificus in coastal waters.
Since V. vulnificus is rarer in coastal waters, Ms. Colwell was surprised by the concentration of the bacteria detected in water samples.
Hurricane Ian created an environment facilitating the growth of Vibrio bacteria.

"The turbulence that's created by the storm, where you have the sediments swept up and turned up—you have runoff with nutrients coming in from groundwater runoff. This brings heavy, rich nutrient mix into where you already give [the water] conditions good for the plankton populations (which the Vibrio bacteria attach to) to become abundant," she added.
"With the temperature of the water being so much higher, you've got this kind of colossal concatenation of events that are ideal for increased risk of bacteria being abundant in number and, hence, potential for infection."
How Do Flesh-Eating Bacteria Eat Flesh
Usually, if the skin barrier is intact, the bacteria cannot cause skin infection.
Skin-eating bacteria commonly infiltrate through a break in the skin's barrier, such as scrapes, cuts, or wounds, and cause rapid and progressive tissue death as the bacteria release toxins that break down nearby muscles, nerves, and blood vessels. They can also infiltrate the abdominal wall, perianal, and groin area, usually among immunocompromised patients.
The body's immune response also contributes to the worsening of infected tissue. As more immune cells attend infected tissues, pressure and air build up in the muscles, further accelerating the death of muscle tissues, nerves, and blood vessels.

This rapid tissue death is called necrotizing fasciitis and gives the impression that the bacteria is eating away at the flesh.
Several other bacteria can cause necrotizing fasciitis. The most common culprit behind this condition is group A Streptococcus, or group A strep.
The rise in Vibrio vulnificus cases, particularly with reports in states where infections were once rare, has alerted health agencies and local governments.
Signs of Infection
Flesh-eating or necrotizing fasciitis causes severe pain in the infected areas due to the pressure and tissue damage.
"Incredible pain is one of the tipping points," Dr. H. Dele Davies, a pediatric infectious disease expert and the senior vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean for graduate studies at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, told The Epoch Times.

Some patients may show no signs of physical injuries, as the bacteria may have entered the body through orifices. This tends to occur in the immunocompromised.
Even if the bacteria entered through a wound in the skin, the infection may not appear at that entry site. Patients may also develop redness or a blister near the wound opening.
"Occasionally ... you'll see a blister that's got blood or black blood underneath it," Dr. Davies said, "but the key message really is they just show up with a lot of pain," often without being able to explain the reason for that pain.
Redness, swelling, and pus formation may also occur.
Amputation Not Always Needed
Surgical intervention is the most important intervention in necrotizing fasciitis, Dr. Davies said.

The surgeon may perform a fasciotomy, opening up the skin at the area of pain to release pressure. Then, the surgeon examines the muscle, fascia, and soft tissues for signs of dead tissues. These are removed, and the open cut is washed with sterile water to remove any remaining bacteria.
Antibiotics are also injected into the blood for support. However, Dr. Davies said the antibiotics cannot enter the fascia, so they are only given to prevent blood infection.
Gradually, the infection in the limbs can infiltrate blood vessels, leading to sepsis. This can cause the organs to work poorly, and patients may suffer a dramatic drop in blood pressure that can damage the lungs, kidneys, liver, and other organs, potentially leading to death.
Symptoms of sepsis include fever, shaking, chills, a drop in blood pressure, and the patient looking very ill.

Amputation in infected limbs is the final resort if the infection becomes too extensive. Usually, doctors have tried removing damaged tissues and prescribed antibiotics by this stage, yet the infection is either failing to clear or worsening.
"If they're so sick that every time you check the blood, the bacteria is in there, that means you have a tap turned on somewhere," Dr. Davies said, comparing the bacterial infection to water leakage in a sink. "If you don't turn off that tap, no matter how much antibiotics you give, it's like wiping the floor while the tap is turned on. So part of the reason you do the amputations is to basically turn off the volume of water that's coming into the sink."
Most People Are Going to Be Fine
According to the CDC, one can reduce their risks of infection by staying out of salty or brackish water when they have a wound from a surgery, piercing, or tattoo.
The wound should also be covered with a waterproof bandage if there's a chance of being in contact with saltwater, brackish water, or raw or undercooked seafood and its juices.
Wounds and cuts should also be washed thoroughly with soap and water after coming in contact with any of those things. While this may not remove all the bacteria, it can help lower the overall bacterial count and make infections more manageable, Dr. Davies said.

"All in context, this is a rare condition. Most people who are in brackish water or saltwater are going to be fine," he said. However, anyone with underlying liver disease, diabetes, cancer, or who is in an immunocompromised condition should ensure they do not have any cuts or bruises before entering water.
Cook Oysters Thoroughly Before Eating
Less commonly, V. vulnificus can also cause foodborne poisoning through the consumption of raw shellfish and oysters.
Vibrio parahaemolyticus make up the majority of foodborne infections among Vibrio bacteria. Most people infected with Vibrio tend to suffer for three days with diarrhea, stomach cramps, and vomiting before recovering.
In rarer cases, people can die from a gut infection. Over 95 percent of deaths from the consumption of seafood are caused by V. vulnificus.
An infection can come from consuming raw or undercooked oysters and shellfish that entrap the bacteria.

However, healthy people usually do not develop a severe gut infection from consuming raw or undercooked shellfish contaminated with Vibrio, Dr. Schaffner said.
Immunocompromised people and those with liver cirrhosis or high iron concentration in the blood are particularly at risk. For people who develop a gut infection, if the infection is not eliminated, the bacteria may infiltrate the gut lining to the blood vessels, causing potentially fatal blood infections.
"This does not bother normal people [but] immunocompromised people are admonished not to eat raw oysters," Dr. Schaffner said.
