Ken Budd spent years searching for his brother Robert, a Marine who was killed in Guadalcanal during WWII. A month after Ken’s death in 2021, Robert’s remains were found — and now he’s finally coming home to rest beside his brother. However, this story has an interesting twist as you'll soon learn...

Quote:(Tribune News Service) — Kathy Kinane of Camillus said her dad, Ken Budd, and her uncle, Robert Joseph Budd, had a “wonderfully close” brotherly connection.

Though he was ten years younger, Ken idolized his older brother.

“My uncle would take him places and cover for him,” Kinane remembered. “They were always pals.”

World War II was the only force that could have separated them.

But not even that, nor Robert’s death in the Pacific Theater in 1942, could break their brotherly bonds.

Kinane tells a story from 1987 when Robert visited Ken in a dream.

“Hi,” he told Ken. “Got to go now. But I’ll get back to you on September 26.”

Ken did not think anything of the dream, nor the oddly specific date.

Later that year, he was leading a fishing tour on the Oswego River when the water level was suddenly lowered by Niagara Mohawk after someone had a medical emergency upstream. When the water was allowed to rise, Ken’s boat was caught in a whirlpool and capsized.

“Budd suffered a fractured vertebrae, cuts, bruises, and trauma, according to legal documents,” the Herald American reported on Jan. 24, 1988.

Three times Ken tried moving while lying on the bottom of the river but could not move.

Suddenly, there was “a commanding voice.”

“Put your arms out,” it said. “Try one more time.”

Ken rose to the surface of the river and grabbed hold of another boat. The date was September 26.

“I get goose bumps thinking about it,” Kinane said.

The brothers were inseparable, even in death.

By 1987, Ken had already made two trips to Guadalcanal, the site of the fearsome battle where his brother lost his life on August 27, 1942, to find Robert’s remains.

Now, after years of toil, this war hero from Syracuse N.Y., is finally coming home to be buried beside his brother and buddy.

On January 9, 1942, Syracuse experienced its largest single day of Marine recruitment since war was declared following Pearl Harbor.

Robert, 20, of Nedrow, N.Y., was among the 45 men sworn in that day.

He had attended Onondaga Academy and was a steelworker at Globe Forge Incorporated. His father, Seeley, worked for the Western Union office inside the Herald-Journal newspaper.

Budd was assigned to Charlie Company, First Battalion, 5th Marines as an automatic rifleman. Newspaper reports described him as a sharpshooter and “an expert with an automatic rifle and machine gun.”

On April 13, 1942, the Herald-Journal reported that Budd returned to the Marines at North River, North Carolina after “a short leave passed at the home of his parents.”

It was probably the last time the brothers saw each other.

Four months later, on August 7, U.S. Marines began “Operation Watchtower,” the first American offensive of the war, by landing on Guadalcanal, one of the Solomon Islands.

Budd’s 5th Marines landed 20 days later along the northern coast. The fighting was intense.

“We all jumped for cover, but several of the men were hit,” said Captain William Hawkins. “You couldn’t see the (Japanese), so we began firing in the direction from which their fire had come.”

With his best friend in the service by his side, Private Thomas Phillips, Budd tried to get into a good position to fire.

Budd was shot in the chest and fell to the ground. Phillips tried to help but he too was shot through the body. They died together.

The next morning, the friends were buried side by side in a coconut grove. A burial party noted a broken-down fence as a nearby landmark and made sure that both were buried with dog tags. However, neither grave was located by post-war search parties.

News of his death arrived at his parents’ doorstep a month later. Budd’s death notice in the Herald-Journal said that “information as to where he met his death could not be disclosed at this time.”

“I can still hear my mother’s screams,” brother Ken wrote in a letter to the newspaper in 1991.

An editorial on Sept. 25, 1942 said the following about Private Robert Budd:

“We know how poignant is the grief of the parents at this hour. But they have the right to cherish a deep and everlasting pride in the character of their son and the brave, fine record he made. At the same time, we wish to emphasize that there was a glory in this young man’s devotion and sacrifice which shall shine through the years, warming the hearts of those who grieve today.”

In a letter to the editor, Seeley Budd wrote this about his son:

“Our love of Bob was unbounded and our pride in the knowledge that he went out fighting in defense of those he loved is just as great. We offer this thought as a source of some consolation to others whose loved ones have passed on down the same bright trail to rest.”

On Memorial Day weekend 1946, Elmwood Presbyterian dedicated blue spruce trees in memory of the 11 of the 278 service members from the congregation who had died during World War II.

Robert was among them.

For decades, it was the only memorial to him locally.

“Uncle Bob was not just a black-and-white photo growing up,” Kathy Kinane remembered. “He was a huge part of the family.”

Her father Ken would not let his brother be forgotten.

“We always knew him,” she said. “We thought, ‘What an awesome uncle he would have been.’”

Ken Budd followed in his brother’s footsteps and joined the Marines during the Korean War.

“He never saw a battle,” Kinane said, “and he was angry about that.”

After being honorably discharged, he got married and had four children and settled in Syracuse’s Valley section. He retired as a District Chief with the Syracuse Fire Department. He later became a charter boat captain on Lake Ontario and Oswego and Salmon Rivers.

“My father was a remarkable guy,” Kinane said. “He was smart. And an expert on anything he put his mind to.”

Quite often he thought about his older brother and how to bring him home.

“It became dad’s life mission,” Kinane said.

Ken Budd started researching his brother’s unit and movements at Guadalcanal. He got Robert’s records from the National Personnel Record Center and visited the National Museum of the Marine Corps. He tried tracking down the comrades in his brother’s unit.

Ken made “hundreds and hundreds of phone calls, letters and personal visits with ex- Marines and others who might possibly help him,” a 1989 Post-Standard article said.

Divine guidance once again played a role.

Ken was visited by Robert in a dream.

“Get a hold of Charlie Wolff,” Ken was told. Then he was given an address and phone number.

Ghosts are not always perfect. The phone number and address were wrong. But Charlie Wolff was Robert’s squad leader, still living in Virginia.

With information provided by Wolff, Ken was able to retrace his brother’s final steps at Guadalcanal in 1985. However, he could not find his burial spot.

Ken asked a local priest if he could have a plaque dedicated to his brother at a church which faced towards the direction where Robert had fallen.

A year later, in 1986, he returned with the plaque which read:

“Resting in peace on these sacred grounds are Robert J. Budd and Thomas Phillips, American Marines, who died valiantly for their country. The Budd Family.”

Ken returned to the site in 1989, again in 1993, and for the last time in 2008.

“He became an expert,” Kinane said of her dad. “He studied aerial maps and made friends.”

His brother’s former Japanese adversaries even helped in the search.

But he never found Robert.

Ken Budd’s health began declining. He wanted to return to Guadalcanal one last time, but his family stopped him.

“I promise you,” his daughter promised him. “If they find him, we will get him home.”

Ken Budd died on Feb. 22, 2021.

Incredibly, almost beautifully, one month later to the day, a construction crew laying water pipes outside The Ofis restaurant at Guadalcanal requested an explosive ordnance expert to their work site after human remains and American military equipment were found.

Half a world away, Kinane was left a message on her answering machine.

Robert was found.

“I was freaking out, crying,” she said. “I told my brothers. I told my kids…”

In 2022, Robert and Tommy Phillips were pulled from their graves and an entire process involving anthropologists, scientists, and morticians started. His remains, including his dog tags, a bit of his helmet and some buttons, were brought to Pearl Harbor for identification.

Ken Budd had hoped that his brother would be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, possibly alongside Phillips.

His children, though, had different ideas.

Robert and Ken, the kid brother who went to such extraordinary lengths to bring him home, should be reunited at Nedrow’s Valley Cemetery.

Home, finally together.

“That was more important,” Kinane thought.

On Monday, October 6, Robert returns to New York State.

His remains are due to land at Rochester and will then be given a Marine escort back to Syracuse, returning to his hometown after 83 years away.

There will be a memorial service at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 West Genesee Street, Camillus, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10.

He will be buried with full military honors at Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Nedrow.

“Dad, he’s home,” Kinane said. “We did it! Robert’s finally home!”

You may also have noticed the distinct lack of media attention to sky-rocketing electric bills and energy costs, particularly in connection to those big A.I. data centers that are opening in various places around the USSA. But if you have noticed the lack of people noticing the lack of notice of these sky-rocketing energy costs (sorry folks, but the tangled diction is necessary to mimic the complete collapse of rationality in the USSA and to mirror adequately its confusion of mind), then the following article noticed and shared by V.T. is for you:

Stargate: OpenAI, Oracle, And Nvidia Announce Creation Of 5 New Datacenters As Meta Builds One The Size Of Manhattan, While Energy Bills Skyrocket

The article is helpful in that it lays out the origins of this mess, but toward the end, it also lays out what the agenda is, and in no uncertain terms:

OpenAI, Oracle, Softbank and Nvidia’s ventures are not the only firms building datacenters. Fortune noted:

The buildout attests to the towering expectations surrounding AI, as tech companies like OpenAI, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Meta race to put in place the infrastructure necessary to power their latest large language models. In July, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company would spend hundreds of billions of dollars building a network of data centers with names like Prometheus and Hyperion to create “superintelligence.”

In July, Meta announced the creation of the Prometheus datacenter in Louisiana, which will be the size of Manhattan. (Boldface emphasis added)

And what's the human cost of all this "development" and "progress"?

Last month, as Americans began to notice their bills going to the moon, USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins and Trump were given their marching orders and attempted to gaslight the country into believing that wind turbines and solar panels are what’s straining the grid and driving energy costs higher, as the administration announced an end to subsidies for those related projects. She said in a statement:

This is a load of nonsense. This techno-fascist-feudalist government has no problem sequestering hundreds, nay, thousands of acres of land for datacenters, battery plants and automated distribution centers - the One, Big, Beautiful Bill allows for eminent domain of private lands, and the AI Action Plan strips away the state’s ability to regulate AI. Oh, but solar panels and wind turbines are the new problem. Right…

The end result? WinePress, which sponsored and authored the article, makes a stunning prediction, one with which I am in some agreement, and one which provokes today's high octane speculation:

I strongly suspect that WinePress is on to something here, and perhaps something the full extent of which even its author may be unaware. To understand this point, upon which our daily dose of high octane speculation is developed, look at what is being implied by the remarks "OpenAI invests in Oracle, Oracle invests in Nvidia, Nvidia invests in OpenAI. What a nice little scam they've got running." In other words, what you're looking at is a kind of circular Ponzi scheme, where one system of algorithmic trading buys another system, and it in turn buys yet another, until the circle is completed, and a massive (and electronically-fast) bubble develops.  Notice that everything is "fine" just so long as the trading mechanism can keep going, ad infinitum, without interruption. But to keep the bubble growing, I submit that more and more power will be needed to propel it, until the whole energy output is consumed to maintain the fiction.

But why would one create such a monstrosity? What is its purpose?

I strongly suspect that this carousel of casuistry is needed simply to provide a new front, a new mask, a new cover, behind which that hidden system of finance I've spoken of for many years can continue to operate, and to gobble up ever more hard assets. In short, you're looking at a game of three-card monte, only the cards are being shuffled by AIs, and the queen is thus always moving faster than its human places can spot; indeed, she is probably not even in the deck at all. It is the ultimate development of a market system that is completely devoid of and divorced from human market realities. Or to put it differently, this circular Ponzi scheme, this game of AI three card monte, is the one-way mirror that Catherine Austin Fitts has spoken of so many times in her analyses of the emerging "financial" "system".


And that means it is probably the wiser and better course of wisdom to allow China to develop and contend with this dragon, which could easily end up consuming the entire electrical output of the Three Gorges Dam, and then some.

It takes a lot of energy to run high speed rails, to farm, to move production and enable supply lines, and it takes a lot of energy to chase the tail of the dragon in a circular Ponzi scheme in "data centers".

But in the latter case, the only thing needed to bring the whole thing down is someone pulling the plug, or a nice electro-magnetic pulse, or a massive solar flare.

With that in mind, it's best to remember, steam locomotives will still work long after diesel-electric locomotives have stopped dead in their (pun intended) tracks after a pulse. The analogy to trade? Well, stock markets and commodities markets worked just fine before there were telephones and computers and stock tickers, and only people waving papers and hollering frantically at each other on the trading floors. It's worth recalling, too, that those bearer bonds scandals proved one thing:  someone was willing to go to a lot of expense and trouble to create physical "securities" and move massive amounts of money that way, and avoid the wonders of "progress" and "digital technology."

A.I.'s time may indeed have come... but its life, I think, will be characterized by its shortness, brutality, and by its inhumanity and anti-humanity.

I was thinking about coded language in the form of street slang, particularly about the terms and phrases used for illegal activities. Just curious, as the idea of subculture use of language, including the drug culture or the gay culture, had come to mind. I had also thought to focus on liberal vs conservative use of language to see what possible slang is being used on either side of the aisle. Basically, I was looking into the current popular use of speech, the leading edge of our living language. It never got that far before the search engine bias took over.

I started with street slang and found that it apparently began with escaped slaves on the Underground Railroad and later evolved in urban areas where blacks migrated after the Civil War, and became modern street slang. I got mostly hip hop references from that search, and it wasn't inclusive of the slang used by white people. So I changed the search to "street slang coded language", and suddenly I found references to white coded language almost exclusively. 

The bias of these reports was plainly evident, as apparently, the only slang white people use is for racist references in the form of commonly used words. Some examples include . . .

People have often signaled their values in the shows they watch (“The West Wing”), clothes they wear (white pantsuits) and restaurants they frequent. But it has become wildly popular in recent years, and especially in recent months, to read cultural tea leaves with the word “coded.” In group chats, on Reddit and on X, we’re calling anything and everything right or left “coded.” It’s like playing a game of charades, gesturing at the qualities a certain celebrity or bar or podcast has without saying exactly what you mean. Linguists notice it too, pointing to Google data that shows a spike in the use of “coded,” with its current meaning, since the 2010s.

How can anyone justify the Dems policies of catch and release ?

YouTube did not admit wrongdoing and will not make product or policy changes under the settlement.
Trump did not lose his YouTube account in 2021 but was suspended from uploading new videos; it was restored in 2023.

Mr. Comey and his associates must be astounded that none of that worked. It really was a mighty organized criminal endeavor. And, as such, it stands to be prosecutable under the RICO statutes, which means that these current two charges against Mr. Comey should be a preview of attractions to come against him and many other familiar characters, possibly including his successor as FBI Director Christopher Wray. (The Blaze reports overnight that the FBI deployed roughly 275 plainclothes agents into the J-6 protest crowd at the US Capitol, as opposed to the 26 agents that Mr. Wray testified about to Congress.)

The smuggery of this gang in the years since all this business started in 2016 has also been out of this world. Mr. Comey dropped one rancid video after another either making threats or sanctimoniously declaring his sainthood, as if he expected the dreadful day would never come that he might face charges. Likewise, former Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe ran his mouth all over CNN for years, former CIA Director John Brennan spun fibs on MSNBC, while FBI RussiaGate straw-boss Peter Strzok rode shotgun regularly with fake news confabulator Rachel Maddow. All of it was designed to bamboozle the public, and it worked!

You can expect more than one RICO case to come because these crimes against our country occurred in many discrete episodes of organized misconduct over many years. The RussiaGate op involving Comey, Clapper, Brennan, Hillary, Obama, Biden, et al., was quite separate from Adam Schiff’s orchestrated seditious Impeachment #1 featuring CIA mole Eric Ciaramella, Col. Alexander Vindman, and ICIG Michael Atkinson. As was the activity of the Mueller group actually supervised by Andrew Weissmann (because Robert Mueller was secretly non compos mentis). As were the J-6 shenanigans of Mr. Wray’s FBI, including the DNC Pipe Bomb sideshow. As were the Lawfare exploits of Norm Eisen and Mary McCord conniving with “Joe Biden’s” White House to arrange the Trump prosecutions by DA Alvin Bragg and AG Letitia James in New York and DA Fani Willis in Fulton County, GA. As were the dark deeds of Merrick Garland and his Special Counsels Jake Smith, David Weiss, and Robert Hur. As were the 2020 and 2022 election-rigging capers of Marc Elias & Company. As were whatever peculiar directives were ordered by Alejandro Mayorkas to throw the US borders wide open. As were the “autopen” abuse by the White House staff and their cover-up of “Joe Biden’s” mental decline.

All of these vile pranks would have to be prosecuted in separate packets of cases. You might think it’s just too much for this Department of Justice, and that the three remaining years of Trump 2.0 are not enough time for so much action. But they represent extremely serious breaches of official duty verging on treason. There are probably aspects of it all and additional characters involved whom I have left out. They have gravely injured our country and turned us against each other. Their prosecutions will be heavy lifting, but it has to be done.

One prediction I’ll venture. Jim Comey’s defense will be based on “altitude sickness.”

I thought I would give DI another try.

However, the last few days on DI have been just stupid.  It seems from the time of the Kirck murder certain threads just get derailed to orange man bad.

Any attempt to have an actual discussion and exploration of facts for specific thread topics just leads to two or three accounts just derailing the thread and trying to control the narrative with whataboutisms.  

I wouldn’t normally be like this.  There are days I post way too often. But the minute by minute responses hour after hour to derail is just crazy. I don’t think they are right out bot accounts.  But they seem to be accounts augmented by bots.  It’s just crazy stupid that threads can’t even stay halfway on topic.  The James Comey indictment thread on last checking turned to Stormy Daniels.  A subject already done to death.

I like being challenged in my beliefs, but constant derailment to off topics is the kind of crap you would expect from a hack flat earth site.  Not DI?  

I’m not sure what you think about Metabunk.  But I like that they limit how often you respond.  Makes you really think about what you’re going to post.
