So When did Bigfoot Become Mainstream? - sailorsam - 04-29-2025 as a little one I remember Bigfoot (sometimes known as Sasquatch) as an obscure monster on par with the Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster. at some point it seems that Bigfoot became mainstream. Pizza Hut had a Bigfoot pizza. Hollywood had a movie about called 'Harry and the Hendersons'. as I recall there was a tv series. the Colorado Avalanche NHL team had bigfoot prints on their uniforms. speaking of the NHL, the Utah team wanted to call themselves the Yeti, but they were denied as there is a cup/cooler maker of that name. so do we think the majority accepts Bigfoot as a real entity? or is this just a modern myth? RE: So When did Bigfoot Become Mainstream? - EndtheMadnessNow - 04-29-2025 I noticed it went full bore mainstream in summer of 2023 in several states, especially Pennsylvania. Lots of conferences & festivals, big campaign promotions. I wrap it into the same grifter group as the UFO flap. It's a big money market industry with absolute zero truth in it as far as I'm concerned. All just entertainment nowadays. There is of course a few that are more scientific oriented in searching for & presenting very interesting data, but they now get drowned out by the entertainment CULTure. Bigfoot, UFOs, & BBQs. ![]() To me it's just a myth, but that don't mean there isn't something strange & elusive among us. I also do not belittle anyone who does believe in Bigfoot. I never really got into Bigfoot research despite living in Oregon. What I find more interesting than the beast itself is the host of characters that speak & publish on Bigfoot. Many to me are way out on cloud 9, but seemingly harmless. The same with the loud voices in the UFO cult groups, but with a big exception - many of them I find to be dangerous akin to religious cult leaders. RE: So When did Bigfoot Become Mainstream? - BIAD - 04-29-2025 Odd that only last night, BIAD dropped this one off at my door! ![]() Normally, I'd just put it down to the poor and biased reporting of general happenings around the world not being seen as entertaining enough and the oncoming 'silly season' in the Western hemisphere beginning to ramp up due to the better weather. But with the realisation that recent generations are not looking to the mainstream media for their infotainment, Bigfoot has become 'Disney-fide' so that it's okay to use it for branding-reasons and yet, still portray the outlying phenomena in a joking fashion. Remember, the MSM -along with that other hallowed church -Science, has always deemed the creature as not real. ![]() RE: So When did Bigfoot Become Mainstream? - GeauxHomeLittleD - 04-30-2025 I for one do believe that Bigfoot is real, though my belief has absolutely nothing to do with modern culture and the plethora of television shows dedicated to it. My belief began decades before Bigfoot was an icon, back in the days when hunters and those who lived in the forests only spoke of such things in shaky whispers and pale faced in fear. In those days to openly speak of such things was to invite ridicule and shame and to risk becoming a social pariah and being labeled "crazy". One had to be in a position of absolute trust to hear these stories as repeating them could put the tellers reputations and livelihoods in extreme peril- and those things meant the world back then. I was fortunate enough to be in such a position of trust, hearing the stories and seeing firsthand the color leaving their faces and the complete fear in their eyes- full grown men who spent a vast chunk of their lives in the woods and who I had always believed feared absolutely nothing. RE: So When did Bigfoot Become Mainstream? - sailorsam - 04-30-2025 I've never read any of them but apparently there is a series of books called 'Missing 411' by a man named Paulides that chronicles disappearances in US parks/forests. scary stuff. apparently Bigfoot is involved, and it's scary serious. RE: So When did Bigfoot Become Mainstream? - F2d5thCav - 05-10-2025 Gotta put in another plug for Ivan T. Sanderson here. His work, "Abominable Snowmen", some 60 years old now, and still a classic: https://archive.org/details/abominablesnowmenlegendcometolifeivansanderson Well worth the read just for his comments on biospheres and ranges (and boundaries therewith associated) of animal life. ![]() RE: So When did Bigfoot Become Mainstream? - FCD - 05-10-2025 I think "Hollywood" Bigfoot became mainstream after he got an Agent and a PR rep. They were able to lobby the "industry insiders" for Hollywood to get his SAG card. BTW, his new stage name which we would prefer to be addressed by is..."Hollywood BMF". Hollywood will be starring in the upcoming smash hit...'Escape From the Octagon'...costarring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, with special guest cameos by Chuck Norris whose appendages will be manipulated by world renowned puppeteer,Jim Henson, with voice over work by Christie Brinkley. Escape from the Octagon is a riveting modern new age thriller pitting over the hill professional wrestlers against a savvy ninja (Norris) in the Octagon of Death all fighting to the death in an arena littered with broken and dysfunctional 'As Seen on TV' exercise equipment.
