When due to weather if we had to divert to an alternate destination coming back to the states the longest time consuming thing that was done is remove all food items that were supplied overseas..Bugs, parasites, you name it are a big deal with customs ...
Corporate guys going to Mexico (fishing trips or hunting birds) could just pay a bribe amount to the local yokels and not even be inspected if going to Mexico... Turbo-prop in the 80s was $50 and a jet (depending on what kind was around $75 for a Saber-liner) Mexico has been corrupt by western standards since before any of us alive today were born.
