The Rhodesian Bush War - EndtheMadnessNow - 06-08-2025 In this third episode of our "First Strike" series, we dive into the aerial dimension of the Rhodesian Bush War—a brutal and complex conflict from 1965 to 1980, where a small, isolated nation faced overwhelming odds. From daring cross-border raids to innovative Fireforce tactics, we explore how the Rhodesian Air Force, flying aging but effective aircraft like the Lynx, Hunter, and Canberra, played a pivotal role in counterinsurgency operations against Soviet- and Chinese-backed guerrillas. Witness the tactics, operations, and outcomes of a war fought with ingenuity in the skies above Africa. 00:00 Introduction 00:50 Background 04:48 Rhodesian Air Forces 05:24 War in Two Phases 06:19 War Begins - 1965 08:18 Phase Two - 1971 10:02 Major Ops 1976 12:31 November 1977 14:23 Operation Gatling 1978 19:20 Operation Vanity 1979 21:11 Operation Uric 1979 - detailed 36:54 Uric aftermath 38:16 End of conflict 41:48 Conclusion Correction: 02:13 should read "...23,000 from other countries and ethnicities." A measure of how jacked the world already was by that point-- the Rhodesians were good enough to die for the Allies in the world wars but were completely abandoned in the name of decolonializing virtue signaling. ![]() RE: The Rhodesian Bush War - Ninurta - 06-08-2025 (06-08-2025, 09:36 AM)F2d5thCav Wrote: Glory to the Rhodesian Light Infantry. Mugabe is gone from office now, but the repercussions from that war still march on. Now Zimbabwe" (which is what Mugabe renamed Rhodesia to - I guess he didn't like Cecil Rhodes or something) is begging for the white farmers to come back. Apparently, Mugabe's political cronies were no damned good at farming, and after the farms were "confiscated" from the white farmers and "redistributed" to black "farmers" who just happened to be Mugabe's political cronies, what was once the breadbasket of southern Africa stopped producing, and the farms went to shit, infrastructure either falling apart or simply being destroyed, Rhodesia fed itself, and a great many others too, but Zimbabwe could not even feed it's own then, and that's a big part of why the economy fell to shit (that and the fact that Mugabe just printed "money" with nothing to back it in an attempt to pay government debts that fell into place after farm exports were no longer able to keep it afloat) and inflation eventually hit literally BILLIONS of percents. Now they want the white Rhodesian farmers to come back - after about a 40 year hiatus because farmers were being killed for their farms - so that they can get their economy back on track. Fuck 'em. There is absolutely no reason for a farmer to ever trust a Zimbabwean, Even at that, whites are not allowed to own farms in Zimbabwe, and they are begging them to come back and LEASE farms, to pay for the privilege of working the lands that were once theirs like itinerant sharecroppers, to benefit the ZANU government. That doesn't strike me as a very good deal, just sayin'.... Zimbabwe is the best argument that could be made to illustrate how Marxism and Progressivism never, EVER work. "Pamwe Chete" . RE: The Rhodesian Bush War - Ninurta - 06-09-2025 On a minor note, the narrator mispronounces "Selous Scouts" early in the video. He pronounces it "SELL-us Scouts", but it was pronounced "si-LOO Scouts" in reality. . RE: The Rhodesian Bush War - FCD - 06-09-2025 I remember having pulled a copy of Soldier of Fortune (SOF) magazine off the rack in the early 70's. I got in trouble with Mom who saw it and immediately concluded my mind was made up to become a mercenary. I got future issues, but I had to hide them and read them at night by my bedside lamp. Oh, and..."Hey, Mom, I really WAS considering becoming a mercenary one day! So, you weren't far off!" (P.S. I'm glad that never happened, but I was right there (mentally) for a couple years). ----------------------------------- I've always been fascinated by the Rhodesian conflict The whole Rhodesian thing was complete BS, from the beginning. They got used, and then tossed aside in history. You know, there are still remnants of this conflict which still go on today. There are Russian and German mercenaries who still fly in and launch airstrikes from places like the DRC down into what was once Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe (for the most part)). RE: The Rhodesian Bush War - Ninurta - 06-11-2025 . RE: The Rhodesian Bush War - Ninurta - 06-11-2025 Another video from the Bush War. This one explains something of what it was like to be a civiliian farmer in those days: The woman mentions "Terrs" a couple of times. That was a very common slang term used for the guerrillas, and was short for "terrorists". Other common terms used were "CT's", which stood for "communist terrorists". and simply "terrorists". I also remember that a lot of the farms, the ones who could afford it, hired full-time security staff It wasn't uncommon to see white former troopies, black guards, some of whom were also former troopies , (former Selous Scouts or African Rifles troopies) or even foreign mercenaries patrolling farms, guarding the farmers while at work, or accompanying shipments to market. It was a field day for foreign militant types in Rhodesia - some would come to secure farms, others came to join the Rhodesian forces and sometimes stayed after their hitch to secure farms and such. Quite a number were Americans, either just folks that wanted to kill communists, or especially Vietnam vets who hadn't adjusted well to civilian life. . |
