May 23, 1968: Atlantic Ocean near the Azores at 9:00 p.m. The crew of the attack transport USS Monrovia of the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet observes a large submerged object, on the starboard side just aft of the stern, in the Atlantic Ocean near the Azores. It is an elongated, translucent ovoid, glowing with a pulsing orange color. As it continues to pace the ship, the compass, radio, and radar systems fail.
