Commissure smile - F2d5thCav - 01-17-2026 I notice weird stuff among the visual clutter of life. One that jumped out the other day was how prevalent a certain type of smile is in photographs of celebrities, models, politicians, etc. I learned a new word. This kind of smile, in which only the upper row of teeth is visible, is called a "commissure smile". This leads me to wonder how this kind of smile became practically the only one used in advertisements and publicity shots. Check it out for yourself. Very few of those kinds of photos show the row of lower teeth. Some kind of taboo there, seems weird and unnatural to me, but I'm something of a social washout anyway.
RE: Commissure smile - EndtheMadnessNow - 01-18-2026 I'm guessing the commissure smile has been typecasted to ads/publicity shots for a long time. Never really noticed that nor the word until you mentioned it.
RE: Commissure smile - babushka - 01-20-2026 You boys never seen a girl smile at you like that? RE: Commissure smile - F2d5thCav - 01-21-2026 From what I've read, it is a natural way of smiling for some people. I was struck by how it became the "model smile" for marketing and influence purposes. As for boys and girls, I was somewhat socially retarded and being half American and half European meant I didn't really fit in well on either continent. So much for globalism ![]()
