The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Limits! Three sets of the rules of 3. - OmegaLogos - 02-25-2026

Explanation: I provide this following article for context ...

Rules of Three!

Quote:What Exactly is the Rule of Three?

The Rule of Three is a typical pattern used in stories, nursery rhymes, parables, jokes, comedy and speeches.

The human mind actually enjoys thinking in patterns. In fact, we naturally look for and create patterns everyday, in everything we do. An example of this idea is within our language where adjectives are often grouped together in threes in order to emphasize an idea.

The Rule of Three is relevant because the number three is the lowest figure that can be used to form patterns in our mind. This is important, because the first instance of something occurring, always comes down to chance; the second instance is considered a coincidence; while the third instance is perceived as a pattern.

Proponents of the Rule of Three state that things are more engaging, satisfying and more effectively presented when using this rule. In fact, it is said that an audience is more likely to consume and absorb any type of information presented to them when it is grouped into threes.

Specifically ...

Quote:Content Creation

The Rule of Three applies to content creation because people think best and remember concepts far more easily when they are grouped into threes.

Therefore when writing a blog article for instance, it’s best to focus on only three main ideas.

And now on with the main show ...

Quote:Three sets of the rules of 3 ...

How things can happen to you ...

A] Once is happenstance.
B] Twice is coincidence.
C] Thrice is an attack. [can be a metaphor]

How you can happen to things ...

D] Once is an experience.
E] Twice is indulgence.
F] Thrice is a way of life .[or you're very foolish]

How to deal with anything ...

1] Wait and See whilst ready to act.
2] Negotiate/Communicate/Manipulate.
3] Kill and replace. [can be a metaphor] i.e. 3 strikes and they're out!

Personal Disclosure: I think these are reasonable and fair rules to live by as life is to short to be messing about with repeat offenders.

I also think that by breaking these simply rules invites terrible danger and horrible consequences far worse than being brutal enough to kill and replace somebody who is a repeat offender.

Note: Replacing what you kill is very important as nature abhors a vacuum from which anything can spring [mostly other demons and devils to plague us all].

Any questions?

Sure

Excellent observations, and a very, very old concept that is still useful today.

As an example, the old Celtic Britons expostulated concepts, and even laws, in Threes before the Saxons, and before even the Romans. See "The Welsh Triads" for still extant examples of such Laws in Threes.

Great subject. I've often enjoyed the Combat Triangle in gaming battles which is Melee beats Ranged beats Magic beats Melee etc. A simple yet effective mechanism.

I think I will enjoy this thread and will post a lot more when I get the chance.

Thanks.

My Buffet learning curve...

First trip = Sampling
Second trip = Favorites
Third trip = Bad decision

The survivalist rule of three.
Three hours to find shelter, three days to find water, three weeks to find food.

Other orders of three.
  • The third time is the charm.
  • On a count of three.
  • The three Musketeers.
  • Knock three times.
  • Two is company, three is a crowd.
  • Three make a family.
  • Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.
  • Height, Width, and Depth.
  • Past, present, and the future.
  • Birth, life, and death.

The rule of three.

I thought this was going to be about how celebrities die in threes.

And how planes crash in threes.

And bad things always seem to happen in threes.

Maybe I'm just superstitious ... those are what come to mind.

There's also Arnold van Gennep insightful observation on the tripartite nature of rituals.

And then, there's is the 'self', the 'other' and the 'boundaries' in between.

In any dualistic concept, there are two 'poles' and the 'spectrum' in between.

As to 'extension'? It would be 0, 1 and the 'infinity' in between.

So basically, I'd guess that any 'one' cannot 'exist' without somekind of 'trinity' to contextualize the 'one', the 'other' and their 'separation'.

The 'actors', the 'play' and the 'interactions'.

A sacred number.
It fits so many situations and is found everywhere.

Body, mind, spirit.

Great thread!

I like the perspective you use here.

I have had some interesting conversations in the last few years when I pose the dilemma of why most if not all children are habitually taught to ignore "0" in their earliest education into a "System". The automatic programming of young minds to reduce the consideration of possibilities and perspective, something powerful and fundamental to Learning as opposed to Spoonfeeding the next achievement with a sticky star. Taught to ignore the infinite spaces to distract those sensitive minds in favour of controllable potential for future positions providing profit for the organisers, big business, big pharma, big tech, the military industrial complex and the GovernMent ... the Controllers of The Mind.

And that potential is literally "nipped in the bud", like being taught to ignore your Mother as the place you first became you with stories of Storks or "Tumberellas" (Grinch) delivering packages on doorsteps to save the embarrasment of explaining the truth honestly.

I am reminded of the Mark Twain quote which I would absolutely apply to my own early years: "I never let my Education ruin my Learning".

And it was Leonardo Of Pisa, aka "Fibonacci" who first realised the great potential power of "0" and discovered his "Fibonacci Sequence" hidden in plain sight, and his smart little sparks jumped a gap in the opposite direction to the mainstream of mathematicians to stumble on the Magic of using it as a starting point for one of the most wonderful and Natural of all calculations imo.

Another is of course "Z=Z2+C" and the evolution of The Mandelbrot Set with other concepts.

4k is tiny in code size for computing, but luckily Universes care not for scale perhaps....

Space Is Deep...

Cheers folks. Enjoy the ride!
