Spectacular Spiral Galaxy revealed by James Webb Space Telescope - gortex - 03-04-2026 Once upon a time in a Galaxy not that far away young Stars and baby Planets were formed , the Galaxy is called NGC 5134 and at just 65 million Light Years away we are seeing it as it was when the Dinosaurs died out ... here on Earth not there ... probably. Quote:Though 65 million light-years may seem like a huge distance — the light that Webb collected to create this image has been journeying to us from NGC 5134 since soon after Tyrannosaurus rex went extinct — NGC 5134 is fairly close by as far as galaxies go. Because of the galaxy’s relative proximity, Webb can spot incredible details in its tightly wound spiral arms. Many more Galaxies litter the picture each with their own story to tell. ![]() Aren't baby Galaxies just the cutest.
RE: Spectacular Spiral Galaxy revealed by James Webb Space Telescope - imitator - 03-05-2026 Good to see you’re still cranking out space stuff. I took a pass at editing that ESA/Webb image. The original is awesome... you can really see way into it, but I wanted to make those red dust swirls pop a little more lol. : )
RE: Spectacular Spiral Galaxy revealed by James Webb Space Telescope - gortex - 03-05-2026 Much cleaner , thanks.
RE: Spectacular Spiral Galaxy revealed by James Webb Space Telescope - Ninurta - 03-05-2026 I wonder what wavelength the image was taken in? It looks to me like it was probably somewhere in the infrared part of the spectrum, probably to cut though the haze and reveal the structure of the spirals. . You are correct mate , JWST uses Infra-red for the reasons you postulate and to see further back in time due to light stretching into the Infra-red spectrum the further it travels. The difference between Hubble's optical light pictures and JWST. ![]() If we were an intelligent species we would already have optical and Infra-Red telescope's on the Moon , sadly we are far behind where we could be by now. |
