They're making a mistake in characterizing the Syrian regime as "pro-American". Never mistake sucking-up as friendship. The Syrian new president is "former" al-Qaida, and, as has been said, the leopard doesn't change his spots. Jaguars do not suddenly turn into house cats.
Always remember that whenever a radical Moslem pats you on the back, he's just feeling for the softest spot to stick a knife into.
What Syria is doing is not "friendship", it's sucking-up in an effort to get the US to relax sanctions, cough up some foreign aid for them, and probably with an eye towards snagging more American weapons.
That snake will turn and bite us without warning.
