64%.... hell there was less support for the vaccine mandates and yet it happened 







COVID-19 Mandates and Related Policies (2020–2021 First Year of Biden Era)
Support for strict COVID measures or vaccine mandates was often polarized and frequently below 64% overall, especially as the pandemic evolved:

• General support for mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations (nationwide or broad mandates) hovered around 64% in mid-2021 surveys (e.g., Northeastern/Harvard/Rutgers poll in summer 2021 showed 64% support for government-ordered vaccinations, up slightly but still borderline; Brookings/COVID States Project noted 64% for everyone and 70% for specific contexts like air travel, but lower for universal mandates in some breakdowns). However, many polls showed it dipping or staying below in subgroups or earlier phases.
  
• Support for vaccine mandates in certain areas (e.g., professions or schools) was often lower, with Twitter/user polls and others showing opposition near 45–50%.
  
• Broader public health restrictions (e.g., masks, lockdowns) saw majority support in early 2021 but dropped below 64% in many cases by late 2020/early 2021 as fatigue set in; Pew found majorities saying benefits outweighed costs, but not always overwhelmingly.
  
• Vaccination initiation/coverage itself was below 64% for many groups in the first half of 2021 (e.g., CDC data showed only 57% of adults with ≥1 dose by May 2021, far below for younger adults at ~38%).
