Propaganda may be a correct description, but I'll hold off until I see the film.
Just thinking of "ET" and "Close Encounters" here, also by Spielberg. Happy, shiny aliens who mean us well.
But the "truth" may be more disappointing. They may not mean us any particular harm either, perhaps they just see us as not interesting. -That- would be the real blow to humanity's self image.

Read some chatter yesterday by a former DoD official claiming there are high quality photos of the craft of the Others as seen in space from satellites. No idea as to reliability of the person making the claim.
