Sylvester scared the poop out of me this morning, and made my heart stand still. He also made a liar out of me.

I always tell my crits that they had better behave themselves, and if they got into trouble, I was going to bury them in the back forty, because there was no way I was going to spend my hard earned coin on taking then to the vet, because they decided to be stupid.

Well when Sylvester started making the most God awful noise I have ever heard in my life, I could not get him to the vet fast enough. Sylvester is the quiet one, but his growlish screams put my loud mouth Enoch to shame.

Crazy thing was that the Huskies would have a melt down every time he would do that growling scream thing. I tried to keep them away, but all four Huskies had to be around him, licking him, and whining. Enoch look scared, but he tried to comfort him too.

I rushed him to the vet, and found out he had a urinary blockage. I just got a call from the vet telling me he was doing fine. He was awake from the anesthesia, and he will leave the catheter in until morning. He will see how well he does urinating on his own, and if he does well he can come home Saturday.

The house is so quiet and so still. The Huskies and Enoch are so depressed. I can't wait to see what they are going to do when he comes home on Saturday.

Right now Sylvester is still groggy so he won't really realize he is in strange country until tomorrow.

So much for the freeze dried salmon treats. Now I am afraid to even give them to the dogs.

The cats and the dogs love them, but I think they may be just too much of a good thing.

The public unveiling of the anomaly detection AI occurred recently at SOF Week 2023, an annual conference held jointly by U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and industry leaders in Tampa, Florida.

At this year’s event, Accrete AI announced that its powerful AI will allow the U.S. military and Special Operations communities to go beyond human intelligence gathering capabilities and “gain the information advantage.”

“Argus is a highly configurable dual-use anomaly detection analytical AI Agent,” reads a statement on the company’s website, “that continuously analyzes the open-source web, in multiple languages, to predict anomalous and nefarious behavior hidden in plain sight.”

Capable of assessing and understanding large volumes of data available online, the learning capabilities of Argus allow it to search “everything from news and social media to company filings and microprocessor manuals,” allowing it to “predict supply chain influence, software vulnerabilities, logistics resilience, viral mis/disinformation, insider threats,” and other potential challenges to U.S. national security.

Prashant Bhuyan, founder and CEO of Accrete AI, said in a statement that his company is “thrilled to have successfully deployed Argus into production with the DoD.”

“We’re committed to advancing Argus’ capabilities to bolster national security,” Bhuyan added, “and empower our country to win in a new era of threats such as misinformation, deep fakes, and viral influence.”

Previously, Accrete AI had identified itself as a commercial partner of the DoD, as well as the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and the U.S. Air Force on its website.

In its 2021 annual report, the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) reported that it had partnered with an unnamed “leading AI firm” specializing in the use of natural language processing “to develop a custom threat detection platform that automates the collection and processing of more than 30 million pieces of open-source information to identify attempts by U.S. adversaries to infiltrate critical national security supply chains.”

The 2021 report stated that the capabilities enabled by the DIU’s integration of AI “has enabled DoD to identify, track, and map illicit activities at a speed and scale that is three times faster than what human analysts could perform,” while ensuring levels of accuracy consistent with past efforts carried out by DoD personnel.

“Armed with this new capability, DoD has already searched and analyzed millions of records and identified dozens of Chinese technology investment firms with illicit operations across the globe,” the report said, in addition to obtaining critical information on exposing the networks and methods utilized by those firms.

The Pentagon also said that several of these Chinese firms had “sought partnerships with U.S. companies while obscuring their real identities to escape U.S. sanctions and restrictions.”

The company’s presentation of Argus this week followed a recent announcement by the DoD that it had awarded $10 million for the establishment of a new institute that will promote “unified research in artificial natural intelligence” co-funded with the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Part of the new institute’s mission will involve the pursuit of “designs of more capable and trustworthy AI,” along with a more complete understanding of the human brain.

In recent days, many leaders in science and technology industries have warned about possible unforeseen consequences that could emerge from the misuse of AI or resulting from unpredictable outcomes that may emerge due to presently unforeseen intentions and motivations that a future autonomous AI system could possess.

As automation becomes increasingly prevalent to streamline global trade, Chinese companies have emerged as major players in the production and distribution of such technology. Some of these companies have come under scrutiny due to concerns that they could use their technology to gather sensitive information that could impact U.S. military operations.

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the Pentagon had determined that Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC), a Chinese company that produces cranes used in commercial and military ports worldwide, and its relationship with Microsoft poses a cause for concern. The article cited that “some national-security and Pentagon officials have compared ship-to-shore cranes made by the China-based manufacturer, ZPMC, to a Trojan horse.”  This identified risk is due to ZPMC’s sophisticated sensors, which could be utilized to track and monitor shipping information and other kinds of data tied to  U.S. military operations. In addition, the article identified concerns that ZPMC’s technology could provide China with the ability to control and disrupt global shipping.

The problem could go much deeper than Microsoft or the United States. Using Argus, we were able to identify relationships of ZPMC with Swiss, Norwegian, and Finnish companies operating in Asia, Latin America, and other parts of the world.

ABB, a Swiss electrification and automation company, is an excellent example of how commercial partnerships can disseminate ZPMC’s technology globally. As recently as 2018, ABB integrated its remote supervision solutions and systems with ZPMC, providing its automated systems to ZPMC for cranes in South Korea and Colombia. Another example is Kongsberg Gruppen, a Norwegian defense contractor whose customers include the U.S. military. 

Kongsberg Gruppen was awarded a contract in 2014 to supply and integrate all telecom and control systems for a vessel built at ZPMC’s shipyard.

Argus also revealed that the Finnish company Cargotec partnered with ZPMC in 2019 to provide software and systems integration services for an intelligent container terminal project, with the potential to expand throughout India, Latin America, and elsewhere. Cargotec’s partnerships with Chinese companies also include a joint venture with the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). CSSC has been identified as a Chinese military company by the U.S. Department of Defense and other ZPMC partners, including the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).

There is a vast network of Chinese entities operating in strategic ports, many benefiting from partnerships with western companies. China Unicom, for example, partnered with Ericsson and ZPMC to integrate 5G technology into smart harbor solutions. The Qingdao-based project utilizes data from over 30 high-definition cameras.

Each of these partnerships - visualized in the knowledge graph in Argus - offer a glimpse into a network that has allowed Chinese companies such as ZPMC to develop automated cranes that are now at the center of global trade. It is plausible that these could allow Chinese companies to gather strategic information about other companies and foreign states. The irony is that many layers of ZPMC’s technology come from the states concerned about it.

By leveraging public documents through advanced AI tools like Argus, risk analysts and open-source intelligence (OSINT) analysts can better understand the network of relationships between entities, enabling them to identify potential security risks and take proactive steps to mitigate them.

The CDC’s report, which drew from over 17,000 responses, is the first the agency has published since the beginning of the pandemic, and its findings speak to the ongoing toll of isolation at the start of covid. Stay-at-home orders exacerbated domestic violenc, posing the greatest risk to women, girls, and LGBTQ people and youth. Schools can be a lifeline to young people experiencing problems at home, the CDC said, and throughout 2020 and much of 2021, they were cut off from this vital resource.

All of these alarming findings come during a particularly fraught time, with the heightened culture war; anti-women backlash manifest in recent, highly visible trials regarding gender-based violence; and, of course, the overturning of Roe v. Wade last summer. Among the many problems since then, women and teenage girls have faced scrutiny for previously quotidian things, among them: being denied life-saving medications for extreme health conditions because the medications were deemed “abortifacients” and they were of “childbearing age.”

“My entire life I was in and out of the hospital,” one 14-year-old girl in Arizona shared in October, after she was denied methotrexate—which she’d taken for rheumatoid arthritis all her life—shortly after an abortion ban in the state took effect. She explained that the pharmacist who helped her at Walgreens “didn’t look at my history” and “just denied my prescription because of my age.”

At the same time anti-abortion legislation has plagued the country, the last year has seen a rash of anti-trans bills across statehouses, barring trans girls from school sports and, in some cases, prohibiting gender-affirming care. Last June, one lawsuit claimed that Texas’ legal crusade to recognize gender-affirming care for children as child abuse resulted in one trans teen attempting suicide.
And, likely speaking to the disproportionate rates of cyberbullying that teen girls reported by the CDC in contrast with teen boys, a September study revealed online incels had become more predatory and radicalized. Researchers found members of the most popular incel forums—which are viewed by 2.6 million people per month—mention the word “kill” every 37 minutes and “rape” every 29 minutes. The subjects of their ire are, predictably, women and girls, already facing endemic sexual violence and mental health struggles.


Teen girls in the U.S. are in crisis—and between the persistence of covid-related mental health issues that remains unaddressed and sharpening attacks on sexual violence survivors, there’s no shortage of forces and institutions to blame.

Teen girls across the United States are “engulfed in a growing wave of violence and trauma,” according to federal researchers who released data Monday showing increases in rape and sexual violence, as well as record levels of feeling sad or hopeless.

Nearly 1 in 3 high school girls reported in 2021 that they seriously considered suicide — up nearly 60 percent from a decade ago — according to new findings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Almost 14 percent of teen girls said they were forced to have sex, an increase of 18 percent over two years and the first increase since the CDC began tracking it.

“If you think about every 10 teen girls that you know, at least one and possibly more has been raped, and that is the highest level we’ve ever seen,” said Kathleen Ethier, director of the CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health who said the rise of sexual violence almost certainly contributed to the glaring spike of depressive symptoms. “We are really alarmed,” she said.


Ethier said it’s important to determine who is perpetrating the violence, which the survey did not address, and how it can be stopped.
Almost 3 in 5 teenage girls reported feeling so persistently sad or hopeless almost every day for at least two weeks in a row during the previous year that they stopped regular activities — a figure that was double the share of boys and the highest in a decade, CDC data showed.
Girls fared worse on other measures, too, with higher rates of alcohol and drug use than boys and higher levels of being electronically bullied, according to the 89-page report. Thirteen percent had attempted suicide during the past year, compared with 7 percent of boys.

Sharon Hoover, a professor of child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Maryland’s School of Medicine and co-director of the National Center for School Mental Health, said she was struck by “the magnitude of the increases and the gender difference.”

Hoover and others pointed out it is unclear whether the data is influenced by other factors — if girls were more aware of depressive symptoms than boys, for instance, or more inclined to report them — or whether girls are simply far worse off.
The crisis of student mental health is much vaster than we realize
Richard Weissbourd, a psychologist and senior lecturer at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education, said there is probably not a single cause to explain the data but rather interacting causes that vary by race, ethnicity, class, culture and access to mental health resources.

Even so, he said, “girls are more likely to respond to pain in the world by internalizing conflict and stress and fear, and boys are more likely to translate those feelings into anger and aggression,” he said. Boys are more likely to “mask depression,” he said, while girls may be more vulnerable to social media and “a culture obsessed with attractiveness and body image.”

CDC researchers said schools could be a lifeline as students struggle, pointing to studies showing better mental health outcomes for students who felt connected to their schools.
The pandemic took a heavy toll on adolescents, who already struggled with depression, anxiety and thoughts of suicide before it began. Many were cooped up at home for months. They continue to grapple with social media pressures, academic strain and family turmoil. Some lost parents and other relatives to covid-19. “These data make it clear that young people in the U.S. are collectively experiencing a level of distress that calls on us to act,” the report said.

In 2021, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Children’s Hospital Association together declared “a national state of emergency” in children’s mental health. A year later, the organizations sounded the alarm again.

The isolation and stress of pandemic lockdowns were followed by a rise in domestic violence — and may have also driven an increase in the sexual assault of teen girls, said Heather Hlavka, an associate professor of criminology and law studies at Marquette University with expertise in sexual violence.
CDC data do not suggest where the assaults happened or who perpetrators are, but Hlavka said it could be a combination of peer violence, dating violence and violence in the home — and should be a target for more research. “It’s really important to disentangle the relationships between the perpetrators and the victim-survivors to better understand the reasons why,” she said.

CDC researchers have kept an eye on data about forced sex for a long time, Ethier said. Now, “we see this increase from 11 percent to 14 percent of teenage girls saying that they’d been raped just between 2019 and 2021 — and that’s extremely concerning,” she said.

The CDC analysis is based on data collected in fall 2021 from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, taken by a nationally representative sample of students in public and private high schools. The results released Monday, derived from more than 17,200 responses, are the first since the pandemic began. The survey is done every two years, and Monday’s report showed trends that spanned from 2011 to 2021.
The findings about hopelessness and sadness among girls are true to the school experiences of high school senior Riana Alexander, 17, who founded the organization Arizona Students for Mental Health. As a group, girls tend to struggle more openly, she said, while boys “tend to struggle in silence.” The sexual violence figures did not startle her either, she said. “I’ve yet to meet a teenage girl who has not had something disgusting said or done to her by a man,” she said.
Why tween girls especially are struggling so much
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and questioning students were significantly more likely to experience violence, including rape, than their heterosexual peers. They were also more likely to be electronically bullied and to report persistent sadness or hopelessness. Twenty-two percent had attempted suicide during the past year. (The survey did not have a question about gender identity, so the analysis did not include transgender students; future versions of the survey are expected to include the question.)


“These data show a distressing picture,” said Debra Houry, the CDC’s chief medical officer, speaking at briefing Monday. “America’s teen girls are engulfed in a growing wave of sadness, violence and trauma.”
That was not completely a surprise for Laurie McGarry Klose, past president of the National Association of School Psychologists. The first thing that came to mind about the rise in depressive symptoms, she said, was “this is the hard data that shows what we have known anecdotally for the last couple of years.”
Teens were hit hard by the isolation and disruption of the pandemic, but many were also shaken by a series of high-profile cases of racial injustice, Klose said — as they simultaneously navigated personal and family difficulties. “It was trauma after trauma, especially for kids of color,” she said.


The report showed disparities by race and ethnicity. Black and Hispanic students were more likely than White and Asian students to avoid school because of safety concerns, a finding the authors said suggested exposure to violence in the community or at school. Black students were more likely to attempt suicide than Asian, Hispanic or White students. White students were more likely to experience sexual violence than Asian, Black and Hispanic students, and they were the only group to see an increase in it.
American Indian or Alaska Native high school students were more likely than other groups to have been raped.
The report also spotlighted some positive findings: Students reported less alcohol and drug use. Over the last decade, fewer students reported ever having sex, currently having sex or having had four or more partners during their lifetime.


Though usage was significantly down over a decade, girls were more likely than boys to have consumed alcohol and used marijuana during the past 30 days. They also were more likely to have recently vaped or ever used illicit drugs such as cocaine, heroin, inhalants, meth and hallucinogens.
Girls were almost twice as likely as boys to be electronically bullied through texting and social media. The targets of bullying were more likely to be White, American Indian or Alaska Native, or LGBQ+.
In its report, the CDC steered attention to the nation’s schools, saying activities there can make a profound difference in the lives of teens. It recommended improved access to mental health services, more classroom management training for teachers, school clubs that foster gay-straight alliances, high-quality health education and enforcement of anti-harassment policies.
Ideally, schools would take on multiple initiatives: “The more of these things you do, the better the impact in the school environment,” Ethier said.
Research shows that those who feel close to people at school have a significantly lower prevalence of serious thoughts of suicide and feelings of persistent sadness or hopelessness. “Our research has shown that young people who feel more connected in their schools do better, both while they are adolescents and up to 20 years later,” Ethier said.
Those least likely to feel connected to school included girls, students of color and LGBQ+ students, according to the data.
Emily Ozer, a professor at the University of California at Berkeley School of Public Health, recommended more mental health services in schools and even small ways to relieve student stress — whether it’s greeting each student by name as they enter class, responding to an absence with a caring inquiry, or giving the occasional homework pass. Student well-being is also linked to the mental health of teachers and other adults in the building, and they, too, need to be supported, she said.
“It takes a lot to be there for students,” Ozer said, “especially distressed students.”
Strikingly 86 percent of students reported high parental monitoring, defined as parents or other adults in the family knowing most of the time where teens are going and who they are with — also considered a protective factor. Nearly 90 percent of girls reported it, compared with 84 percent of boys.

An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head
wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received

A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the
counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer,
the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register,
which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the

Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that
he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab
some booze, and run. So, he lifted the cinder block and heaved it
over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit
the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor
store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on

videotape.

As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man

grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the
woman was able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher.
Within minutes, the police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in
the car and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of
the car and told to stand there for a positive ID. To which he
replied, Yes, officer, that's her. That's the lady I stole the purse

from.
The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a

Burger King in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at 5 A.M., flashed a gun, and

demanded cash.The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they weren't available for breakfast... The frustrated gunman
walked away.

“There is overwhelming evidence that the CIA was involved in his murder. I think it’s beyond a reasonable doubt at this point,” Kennedy said about the November 1963 incident in Dallas, Texas. “The evidence is overwhelming that the CIA was involved in the murder, and in the cover-up,” he also said.
Kennedy made reference to the book, “JFK and the Unspeakable,” penned by James Douglas, for some of his assertions. The book theorized that Kennedy was assassinated because he sought peacemaking during the Cold War and was then killed by his own security apparatus.
The federal government concluded during its Warren Commission Report that shooter Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone suspect in the assassination. They said there was no credible evidence to suggest that he was part of a wider assassination conspiracy.
Oswald was shot and killed by alleged Chicago mob associate Jack Ruby two days after Oswald was accused of the assassination. Ruby would be later convicted of the murder and sentenced to death, but he died in prison several years later.
The CIA has long denied any involvement in the former president’s death. An article published on the intelligence agency’s website (pdf) says that it was a “lie” that connected the CIA “to the Kennedy assassination,” alleging it was part of a Soviet KGB “disinformation” campaign and then cast aspersions against director Oliver Stone’s 1991 film “JFK, ” which strongly suggested that the CIA and other federal officials may have been involved in the assassination.
“Unfounded assertions of CIA complicity were bolstered inadvertently by a series of investigations of the Intelligence Community in the 1970s. The 1975 Rockefeller Commission report was followed by the 1976 report of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the 1979 report of the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA),” that article stated.
“All examined the CIA’s activities both before and after Kennedy’s assassination, and, in the case of HSCA, specifically looked into Shaw’s supposed role as a high-ranking operative,” it added, referring to businessman and military officer Clay Shaw, who was arrested and charged on March 1, 1967, with conspiring to kill President Kennedy. Two years later he was acquitted by a jury.

The article stated: “The bottom line in each instance gave no credence to any of [local District Attorney Jim] Garrison’s allegations about Shaw and the CIA. Inexorably, however, the mere fact that such questions were asked helped fashion Garrison into something of a prophet in the public mind.” Garrison’s allegations were prominently featured in the “JFK” film.
The Epoch Times has contacted the CIA for comment.
Other Claims
Kennedy Jr.’s claims on Sunday aren’t the first time he’s floated the notion that the CIA killed his uncle. He’s also claimed in the past that his father wasn’t killed by Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian man who supported communism.
“I also hope that the governor will consider the overwhelming evidence that Sirhan is not my father’s killer,” Kennedy Jr. [url=https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/Robert-F-Kennedy-Jr-Sirhan-Sirhan-didn-t-16686114.php]wrote for the San Francisco Chronicle in 2021.
He wrote: “For many years, I accepted the orthodoxy that Sirhan was responsible. After all, dozens of eyewitnesses in the Ambassador Hotel pantry saw him fire his gun from just a few feet in front of my father. But in 2016, my father’s close friend, Paul Schrade, persuaded me to read Los Angeles County coroner Thomas Noguchi’s autopsy report and to listen to audio recordings and review other evidence indicating that Sirhan could not have been the murderer.”
Kennedy went on to say that Sirhan fired two shots at Kennedy, an upstart senator from New York who was running as a Democrat in 1968, and one of the bullets, he said, struck Schrade in the head. The other bullet hit a door jamb. He then fired more shots, hitting several other bystanders, Kennedy Jr. alleged.
However, none of those bullets struck his father, Kennedy Jr. said, floating the theory that the four shots that hit his father “were from within a few inches, with two leaving gun powder residue in the wounds, suggesting that the assassin was standing close behind my father, shielding his weapon with his body while all attention focused on Sirhan.”
He also alleged that Los Angeles police investigators “bullied and badgered eyewitnesses to change their statements regarding the number of shots and to silence those who say they saw Cesar draw and shoot his gun and those who reported conspirators dashing from the scene.”
Thane Eugene Cesar, he said, was the individual who killed his father. Before the Sirhan shooting, Cesar—a recently hired security guard—grabbed Kennedy by the elbow and steered him toward Sirhan, he said.
“Bedeviled by questions about his involvement in my father’s murder, Cesar fled to the Philippines. I was in negotiations with him in 2018, before reports of his death in September 2019. After first agreeing to meet with me, he gradually escalated his price to $25,000 for the privilege of interviewing him,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy, an environmental lawyer and writer, declared his candidacy for president several weeks ago. A recent Fox News poll showed that 19 percent of voters favored him.

Today was a very odd day.

I called my mother this morning to check on her as I always do and she was very angry and described an incident that supposedly happened with me yesterday that never happened.

I came over later that day and took her shopping for some items at Kroger and she was in there for an extremely long time so I went in there and found her and she said she couldn't find her way out.

She called me back later today and apologized and said she was wrong and said you know how my memory is.

So tonight I was going through various music threads here and was very surprised and shocked to see many many posts that I had not given a rating for.


Normally I am very meticulous about giving everyone who posts in a music thread a positive rating.

Hearing music that is new to me is one of my favorite things in life.

Tonight as I was browsing I found a TON of posts that I had not rated, even a few that came before I posted one after them.

 I cannot blame being so busy in the edit bay because I have limited myself not to make any new posts until I have rated all the ones before me.

So to any and all who have noticed this and felt slighted please accept my sincere apology.

I will not be making any new posts until I have this current project done.

I am also worried that my mind may be going the way of my mothers, possibly dementia.

This is one of the better Why Files I have seen even though I am not particularly interested in the subject matter... The subject in part is why much of everything we see and hear online can be BOT generated and a "DEEP FAKE" presentation of people we think we recognize and know .
